Bath
We made it to Bath!
We walked 11 miles from Cold Ashton to Bath with 1,000 feet of elevation gain, completing the final stretch of the Cotswold Way. The day started with a light drizzle, but the skies soon cleared and the sun came out just as we started walking. With a high of 67, it was a perfect day to finish our journey. Altogether, we estimate that we walked at least 111 miles over 11 days, with about 14,600 feet of elevation gain, roughly the height of Mount Rainier!
All packed up.
And perhaps an even bigger achievement, Tristan petted his first woolie! The one just to the left was still sleeping soundly when it got a surprise awakening.
They are all awake now.
SPECIAL PLANTS?!
9 miles to Bath!
One of the last gates to open and close! Sniff.
And his second woolie!
It was such a glorious day to be walking, we didn't want it to end.
Salt Lake City!
Chicago!
Just before we arrived in Bath, we stopped at a cafe on the outskirts of town and ran into many of our traveling companions. It has been so fun meeting people along the way and then running into them again a day or two later at dinner or on the trail. Many times we never learn everyone’s names, just where they’re from, so when we see each other again we simply call out their city as a greeting. We’ve met people from Washington State, California, Salt Lake City, Dallas, Colorado, Nashville, Florida, the Netherlands, and even Peabody, Massachusetts! We’ve really enjoyed all the conversations along the way and getting to know a little bit about the people who, for a few days at least, were sharing this journey with us.
Our hotel in Bath for the next three nights - what a treat to stay in one place for a few days!
Our plans for Bath are to eat good food, check out the Roman Baths, see Tristan & Yseult, enjoy all the period costumes during the Jane Austen Festival, have a massage and a soak at the thermal spa, and eat more delicious food. After Bath, we head to Oxford for a day and then on to London for a few days before we fly home. The walking portion of the trip may be over, but the adventure isn’t quite finished yet. Stay tuned!
